The Plant Almanac

This 6 month course will walk you through the seasonal changes in the Northern Hemisphere from the Spring Equinox (20 March) until the Autumn Equinox (22 September).

At the end of the course you will be equipped with the tools to observe and connect with over 40 U.K native tree and plant species as they emerge from their Winter dormancy. You'll gain skills to identify plants and their properties (e.g. whether they're edible!), learn about their folklore and ethnobotany (the study of the relationships between plants and people).

Testimonials

It's given me a sense of confidence and curiosity - it's opened my eyes and made me more curious about nature. I just want to know absolutely everything about it now!

I recommend this course to everyone!

Gella, September 2022

There’s a little whisper within me when I walk in the meadows and woods of the timelessness of collecting herbs; noticing where they grow; how the terrain changes over the months ~ there’s so much to learn and finding people who delight in watching life in the natural world is a joy.

Thank you for kickstarting and awakening my interest in plants.

Tracey, September 2022

It's made me more observant in terms of noticing what's about at the same time as something else and correlating that with your life e.g. realising that acorns come before conkers - who knew! When you're tying it into weekly Forest School sessions that suddenly becomes really important.

Dates for your diary and things to note

Access to the course materials opens on Ostara (20 March) and we will meet in online community on Friday 21 March at 8-9pm GMT. We will then meet monthly on zoom and the course content will be unlocked monthly for you to work through at your own pace in between zoom calls.

Course enrolment for 2025 opens in February - join the waitlist for priority enrolment.
Time commitment - no more than 1 hour a week online (including connecting on the community WhatsApp group) and at least 1 hour a week (ideally more) spent outside in nature consolidating online learning.

The course is hosted online by digital course platform ‘Podia’ - follow the 'preview' buttons below for sample course content.

There will be no online learning in the month of August - this is a time to be outdoors!
